Caramels

It doesn’t have to be the holidays to enjoy some really good homemade candy.  This recipe for homemade caramels is delicious.

Ingredients:

1/ 2 cup chopped nuts

2 cups sugar

3/4 cup light corn syrup

1/ 2 cup butter

1 cup canned milk (or whole cream)

Directions:

In the bottom of a 8 inch square pan, sprinkle the nuts.

In a saucepan combine remaining ingredients (except milk/cream).  Bring to boil over low heat, stirring constantly.  Once boiling, add milk or cream.  Continue to stir as mixture thickens and cook to 250 degrees or until the hard ball state.  Remove from heat and pour over nuts in pan.  Let cool completely and cut into squares for serving.

Makes 5 dozen caramel candies.
